About kitsunagu
Built by expats, for expats — because we've been on the other side of this search.
Our story
We're two expats who have called Japan home for over ten years. In that time, we've filled out the forms, sat through the appointments, and hit the same wall again and again: finding a professional — a lawyer, an accountant, a notary — who could actually help us, in a language we were confident in.
Sometimes that meant hours of searching just to find out a firm didn't take English-speaking clients. Sometimes it meant showing up to an appointment and realizing, mid-conversation, that we didn't understand enough to make an informed decision. We know how that feels, and we know it doesn't have to be that way.
So we built kitsunagu — the directory we wish we'd had when we first arrived.
Who we're here for
Everyone's Japan journey is different. Wherever you are on yours, we want this to be useful to you.
Just arrived
New to Japan and still finding your footing. We want your first experience with a professional here to be a reassuring one, not a stressful one.
Getting by, but not fluent
You can handle daily life in Japanese, but legal, financial, or medical matters deserve precision. It's okay to want that conversation in a language you're fully confident in.
Fluent, by choice
Even after years here, plenty of people who speak great Japanese simply prefer working with English-speaking professionals for important matters. That preference is valid too.
What we're trying to do
kitsunagu started with legal professionals, and we're growing it into a directory across the fields that matter most when you're living abroad — lawyers, doctors, dentists, real estate agents, and more. Every listing is independently checked for genuine English-language support, not just a translated homepage. We want you to trust that when you reach out, someone on the other end can actually help you.
It's free to use, with no fees and no signup required, because finding the right person to help you shouldn't be one more struggle on top of everything else.
